At The Porch and Poly Outdoors, we offer a premium selection of outdoor furniture, including hardwood timber and HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pieces. Our garden furniture is designed for durability and style, ensuring it can withstand the harsh Australian climate while enhancing your outdoor space. Whether you prefer the natural charm of hardwood timber or the low-maintenance benefits of HDPE, you can trust our products to be long-lasting and reliable.

However, even the toughest outdoor furniture requires regular cleaning to maintain its appearance. Sap and pollen are common culprits that can leave sticky residues and stains, making it essential to address these issues promptly. Here’s how to keep your garden furniture looking pristine:

Removing Tree Sap & Pollen From Outdoor Furniture

For HDPE Lumber:

  • Supplies Needed:

    • Undistilled white vinegar

    • Water

    • Plastic bucket or bowl

    • Soft-bristle brush

Instructions:

  1. Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a bucket.

  2. Use a soft-bristle brush to scrub the mixture over the affected areas until the sap or pollen is removed.

  3. Rinse with clean water and let the furniture air-dry.

Pro Tip: Rubbing alcohol can also be used as an alternative to vinegar.

For Wood & Aluminum Furniture:

  • Supplies Needed:

    • Rubbing alcohol

    • Water

    • Plastic bucket or bowl

    • Cloth or soft sponge

    • Towel

Instructions:

  1. Mix a 1:1 ratio of rubbing alcohol and water in a bucket.

  2. Gently scrub the solution onto the sap or pollen stains using a cloth or sponge.

  3. Rinse with clean water and dry the furniture with a towel.

Prevention Tips

  • Trim Trees: Prune back trees or shrubs near your outdoor furniture to reduce sap and pollen exposure.

  • Consider Placement: Position your furniture away from trees or high-pollen areas.

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your garden furniture regularly to prevent sap and pollen build-up.

  • Use Covers: Protect your furniture with covers when not in use.

  • Apply Protective Coatings: Shield your furniture from sap and pollen using these coatings:

    • Wood: Exterior sealant or paint

    • Aluminum and Wrought Iron: Car wax

    • Natural Wicker: Lemon oil

    • Cushion Fabric: Spray-on silicone protectant
